Dell Inspiron 3647 won't activate

Bought 5 of these about 14 mo ago. One wouldn't activate. Dell sent a MB and still wouldn't activate. Couldn't reimage the PC at the time and now I'm out of warranty. Showkeyplus shows Windows 7 OEM marker present in firmware. This came from Dell with Win8 reinstalled. Do I have any resort at this point in getting this to activate without purchasing a new license?

recovery disc

I have a 2006 Dell Media Edition running Windows XP.  It did not come with recovery disc.

Since Windows XP is now defunct, I would like to have the OS on a disc that I can use if necessary.

I have an external backup drive which is saving all my material.  If the system crashes, I would need to have XP re-installed and then I could recover my data from the external drive.

When searching the Internet for instructions, Dell says : click

Start> All Programs> Dell Accessories> Dell OS Recovery CD

The only issue is that I do not have Dell OS Recovery CD in Dell Accessories.  All I have is Driver Reset Tool.

So, what do I do to make a copy of my OS in case I need it?  Also, the internal CD burner no longer burns and I have to use an external burner, which most programs refuse to let me switch to.

Lastly, I am a user who has a  modicum of knowledge, but I am in no ways a techie - so if anyone answers this post, please keep that in mind.

Thanks in advance

Windows Installation Disk

My device is Dell Inspiron 3542 with a default windows 8.1 home edition preinstalled.I had tried installing Ubuntu OS  and due to less attention from my part, the installation completely erased my windows partition.

I had made a recovery disk on a portable hard drive but owing to carelessness, my cousin wiped out the entire hard drive thinking of it as unnecessary.

I want to restore my PC back to the shipped OS but I do not have a recovery disk nor a manufacturer modified operating system.I tried looking into the support page but it says that recovery image is not available for the specified model of my product.

Is there any way to recover back my old OS and can I request a installation disk from DELL.Please answer the following question.Thanks.

hi all

i have bought dell inpiron 5559 laptop from one week, i cleaned windows 10 pre-installed from the factory and installed windows 7 by converting hard disk style from GPT to MBR and allowing unsecure boot and changing boot sequence from UEFI to Legacy Roms

after installing windows 7, all Onboard i/o ports are not working except DVD-Drive

for example i inserted a  USB flash memory and it wasn't recognized, i tried to install another windows and use another USB flash memory and the problem is still exist

is the operating system recovery image on dell support can solve the problem and get the laptop to its original state ? if i burned to to flash and tried to boot from it will it work and recognized or should i burn it to DVD as DVD is the only working devices right now ?

Wanting to reinstall Dell XP on another computer

So, I have two dinosaur Dell desktops.  One is a Dimension 3000 and the other an 8400.  I only have the Windows XP disc for the 3000 one and I am wondering if I could reformat the hard drive on the 8400 and reinstall XP using the disc.  Would everything be okay, provided I back up the necessary driver files on a flash drive?  I have the CD key or product key (whatever it's called).  Would any other kind of alphanumeric number be needed?

Thanks!

Windows 10 revert difficulties

I have a Dell Studio 1550 that had the forced Windows 10 "upgrade". I followed the instructions to revert (from recovery) as it had been less than a month. But then I was given Boot Manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3.Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

I went to my other comp whish has windows 7 to create the disc - but I apparently have Windows 7 64 but on the dell not the 32 bit that was downloaded and am at a standstill.

I just wanted to play Minesweeper dammit! Help?

Renaming "C:\Users\OLD BUSINESS NAME HERE" on Area 51 Alien

We purchased an Area 51 Alien PC and started a business. We set up the computer in the business name. Upon expanding we needed to change the business name. I have changed it through my Microsoft Live Account. Even spent two hours on the phone with them going through billing to change the business name there. However it still comes up on the computer in places as a user even though I have looked in every conceivable settings folder to try to rid myself of the old business name... yet it still comes up in on my Microsoft Access in the navigation pane as Database- C:\Users\oldcompanynamekeepsshowinghere\Desktop etc. etc. Please help me update my computer/software/???! to get this old business name off and the new one on.

Any OEM License Work?

Seems for some unknown reason our license for the XPS One 2720 for Windows 8 Pro has been locked. Microsoft has been of no help and refers to Dell support which now wants to charge me as the system is out of warranty. Looks like I've got an anchor unless I bow down and buy a new OS license for Windows 8 and then upgrade to Windows 10. Problem is although Dell says the system will work under Windows 10 I don't see drivers listed as such. So waste more time and money and maybe still not have computer that can be activated or just ditch the thing and find something else, likely not a Dell after this experience?

I've worked on a ton of systems over the years and have never had such poor support and this isn't even my personal computer. It belongs to Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad where I run as a volunteer. Unfortunately the person in charge of the computers, all Dell, didn't believe in backups or keeping the software and materials sent with the systems. After all it wasn't his money being spent. Anyway with the activation issue I guess I could try to find a new Product Key for Windows 8 Pro 64 and hope it works but would rather know ahead of time. Anyone else had these issues and found a way to resolve?

Thanks,

Steve

Inspiron 1720 reinstall disk?

I now own my brother's Inspiron 1720 laptop. He passed away in March. I wish to reinstall the OS but I do not have the disk. How can I get the reinstall disk?

It currently has Windows 7 Home Premium on it, so I would like to reinstall that, even though the label says Windows Vista Home Premium, so I would also like to find out how to upgrade it to that again.

I've tried several downloads of Vista and Win 7 with the product keys listed on the label to no avail.

Thank you so much!

Audio distortion running Windows 7 64 bit

What follows is the text of the initial message that I posted at the Dell Desktop Forum regarding this problem:

Running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, Service Pack 1 on a Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition PC.  I am experiencing audio distortion/breakup & dropouts/skips when playing music from the computer through headphones or external speakers.  The problem occurs whether the source is iTunes, Windows Media or the optical drives.  The longer the listening time, the more frequent & severe the errors become.  When listening to ripped copies of the same music through an iPod connected directly to the audio system or headphones, no errors occur.  I have installed an ASUS Xonar U7 external sound card.  This seems to have improved the overall sound but it has not solved the distortion issue.  The relevant drivers appear to be up to date.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

After a series of exchanges with Chris M, and performing actions suggested by him that included establishing that the Onboard Audio Controller was disabled & removal of the program REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO DRIVER, Chris M's latest reply was:

I do not think that this is a computer hardware issue. The fact that both the Realtek and the 3rd party Xonar both have the issue points to the operating system resource allocation has the problem. You need to repost the issue on the Microsoft Operating System board to get their thoughts and opinions.

So, here I am.  Anyone have any suggestions?  As I mentioned in my initial post, the audio drivers appear to be up to date.  I suppose I could check them again ...  Or maybe it is time to convert to Windows 10?

Factory Configuration: RECOVERY partition (9GB) has a DELL/IMAGE with 8.7 GB so it fills this partition. Inside the IMAGE three files factory.wim (4GB),  factory2.wim(4GB), factory3.wim(1GB) created the same date and before ownership of the computer. Mistake of system installation by DELL? Can I remove these files?

Editing Issues with Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 on Windows 7 Professional

I was in the market for a PC that could handle editing HD videos for my YouTube channel. I came across Dell's Precision workstations because they advertised heavily on their integration with Adobe productions. I've owned the Adobe Master suite CS4 collection for some time now and use Adobe Premiere for editing my videos. For the most part it's been working great.

However, I recently purchased a Nikon D5500 camera to shoot videos and have had trouble editing my footage when importing into premiere. The timeline is very choppy and laggy which is suprising giving hte fact I had my computer designed for this very purpose. I always configure my sequences to match video footage to ensure smooth editing and the problems still persists.

One work around I found was importing these files into Any Video Converter and converting them to mp4's and then bringing them into premiere. However this method is time consuming and i would like to be able to just shoot from my camera and import them directly into premiere pro cs4. If anyone had any advice or knowledge please let me know as it would be greatly appreciated. Below is my hardware / software information:
