Reinstalled windows on the laptop I just bought, now it's asking for a windows key

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1470 from a friend. It was covered in ***, so I reinstalled windows home premium. It asks me for a windows key, which I thought was stored on the BIOS? Then I flipped the laptop over to look at the key on the sticker on the bottom and it looks like this: imgur.com/FwYkffv

How do I get the Windows 7 Home Premium key that was on the laptop before I reinstalled windows to work again?

Recovery

My Dell PC came with WIndows 8, pre-installed. I just upgrade it to Windows 10 and have few question:

I believe that when I recover my OS from the recovery tool it will recover the Windows 8, and not Windows 10. Am I right?

Secondly, if I create recovery CD using the recovery tool now, it will still create windows 8 recovery CD and not Windows 10. Am I right?

If there any way I can create a Windows 10 recovery CD?

Shall be thankful for any suggestion.

No Windows disk/activation key provided with Dell XPS13?

Why is there no Windows disk/activation key provided with the Dell XPS13? How can I get back to Windows 8 and activate?

My dad is having some issues with his XPS13 on Windows 10 (it won't activate despite doing the UPGRADE process the correct way - which I have done on THREE of my own computers followed by a true clean install).

So...how in the world can I get him back on Windows 8 and get him reactivated without a disk or activation key?

Recovery error (error code 0xc0000098) while downgrading from Windows 10 back to Windows 8.1

Hi. Can anyone help me on this error?

I upgraded my Dell Venue Pro 11 5130 tablet to Windows 10 a few days ago. Everything was fine but I noticed that apps are not downloading from the Windows Store. Also, some updates are not downloading or the download process gets stuck at a certain percentage. So I decided to roll back to Windows 8.1 and try to reinstall Windows 10 after.

While downgrading, my tablet reset and I get a blue screen with the error code 0xc0000098. The boot up process doesn't continue after the initial Dell Logo. Only the blue screen appears with the above stated error.

I've attached a picture of the screen after the Dell Logo.

How to update drivers for Windows 7 on an Inspiron 1501?

Hi Folks,

Maybe I just shouldn't try this, but since I hate throwing a working machine away, I just installed Windows 7 pro on my Inspiron 1501, only to find that Dell does not support Win7 on my machine, so they don't have any drivers for it.  Is this really the end of the story?  Is there no way to get the Dell software and drivers updated for my machine now that I have a supported OS?

Thanks much!

Brad

Unable to update Dell Studio 1555 to Windows 10 (or 8)

I would like to update Windows 7 to Windows 10 but after starting installation my CPU doesn't support NX. CPU is Core 2 Duo which I'm sure supports NX.

I updated BIOS to A13 (from 2011) hoping there would be an No Execute option, but its not.

I found this modified BIOS that should unlock hidden menus. Is there an official solution?

XPS 13 (L322X) reinstall of Windows 8 blocked by postgreSQL

Do to a malware intrusion, I have fully re-set the SSD and have re-loaded Windows 8 (from Dell recovery DVD).  In the process of allowing the massive number of automatic Windows updates and installing network peripherals, an unwelcome app 'postgreSQL' was installed without my knowledge.  This app created a 'super-administrator' user 'postgres' with an unknown user password which has overridden the system administrator user's file permissions so that nothing may be changed.  Most Windows utilities go into limbo (hang-up).   I cannot uninstall any programs, nor reverse any Windows updates.  File system Refresh or Reset do not work.

The Dell recovery DVD (which worked 5 days ago) will not work now.  I have also tried USB recovery.

Any ideas?

Work around for Broadcom adapter with Windows 10 install.

80240020 was my install error code for the Windows 10 download. Also, the Windows 10 compatibility wizard in the Window 10 App said the Broadcom virtual adapter was not compatible.

1. Disable the Broadcom adapter in Device management.

2. Follow these instructions from Microsoft. ***NOTE: Dism would not work for me  but still downloaded Win 10.

A. Browse to "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete the contents of the folder.

B. Press Windows key + X > Click Command Prompt (Admin) then type "wuauclt.exe /updatenow". Hit Enter

C. Open Control Panel > Windows Update and Windows 10 should begin downloading.. Press Windows key + X

Click Command Prompt (Admin)

Type in at the prompt OR Copy and Paste these one at a time : (Hit enter after each)

Win 8 - problem with Windows license

Hello,

I have purchased the Dell Inspiron-15 laptop in October 2014.

The microsoft product - Win 8.1 Pro was sold along with the PC. This was a fully embedded verion, i.e neither Flash nor DVD containing the purschased operation system were supplied.

The service tag of the PC is: <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>

These days all MS costomers having official version of win 7,8,8.1 are entitled to upgrade to windows 10. After having tried to upgrade my Windows to and all of a sudden I have found out that it can't be upgraded because I have a specific license named "Volume License", which has certain limitations.

I called Microsoft, they proposed me to contact "DELL" and resolve this problem by simply getting a proper product key, which entitles me to activate my Windows.

What should I do? Who I can contact about my problem?

Thanks,

Eli

Windows recovery fail

After some software problems, I tried to reinstall Windows using Dell DataSafe Restore, using only one availabe image "factory image 2012-01-28 08:01:00".

But after completed HD format and copying all files, restored OS can't start (error message below)

It looks like broken restore image - is there any way to download working image and reinstall on disk (i.e. via bootable USB)?

Unfortunatelly recovery disks was never created for this computer.

On first run Windows is checking configration and fails because "CorruptRegistry", with error report:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 30 Stepping 5
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 8151 Mb
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 5450, 1024 Mb
Motherboard: Dell Inc., 0T568R

Brand new hard drive (Seagate), reinstalled Windows off factory disk, everything was working great...

Then I restarted. Now just got a blank screen with blinking cursor in upper left corner.

All the posts I've read on this seem to be about hard drives that have been in use for awhile. I just got mine TODAY.

Any suggestions?

Dell Studio 1555 - video drivers?

$

I've upgraded Studio 1555 to Windows 10 yesterday. Everything seems to be working great, except Minecraft, which crashes in video land.

Minecraft is aware of the problem, and issued an advisory with recommendation to update OS video driver to manufacturer's video driver. However, there's no Intel GM45 driver for Windows 10 from Dell? When is that going to be addressed?

Please help, guys, or I'll just have to give my son Dell's tech support number ...
