I recently purchased a Dell and the only way the hardware options I wanted would come is if the OS was Windows 7 Pro with an included Windows 10 Pro License.  So I received the computer and I would like to upgrade it from the start.  However, I can't seem to find instructions on how to do this.

I have looked at the How to Set Up your new Dell Computer on the Knowledgebase, but it does not mention my situation.

I have looked at the Windows 10 Upgrade Walkthrough on the Knowledgebase. But it does not mention my situation.

I have tried the WIndows 10 Downgrade System on the Knowledgebase, but again it does not mention my situation.

The computer came with a purple CD that sys to ensure that the BIOS setting is set to UEFI mode prior to installing Windows 10.  But if I adjust this setting and run the CD there is no mention about upgrading to Windows 10 in the options available.

The Windows 10 Upgrade walkthrough talks about updating the Windows 7 install with Service Pack 1, but none of the info that came with the PC shows an upgrade code which I would probably need since the Microsoft free upgrade time period has expired.

So how to I upgrade this new computer to windows 10?  Just wondering what info I am missing.  I assumed this would be simple.  I shouldn't have to reinstall all my preinstalled software and drivers on a brand new computer on day one.

    Thanks,

    Hi

Can any one help me with my fresh install of windows 7 on a new drive on my xpsL501 ?

I want to replace the hard drive with a new larger one, want a fresh install of windows 7 home premium but don't have the disk that may have come with the laptop when it was bought.

I have the windows authentication code on the back on my laptop but I can't get the installation iso as Microsoft website says that the code is for a OS that came preinstalled and hence I need to go back to Dell!

I do have a DVD from DELL that says 'Drivers and Utilities' for  preinstalled software  and it says it contains Device drivers and Diagnostics.

If you could help me with

1.firstly to get hold of the win 7 installation iso or disk

2.Then do I just use the dvd with Drivers provided by Dell and update everything ?

3.Anything else that I should do.

Apologies and thanks to anyone who can help me out. :) Megan

I have a BIOS which is comfigured to UEFI and I want to automate the reconfiguration to LEGACY.

    I use the command: CCTK --LEGACYOROM=ENABLE --valsetup=password

but i do get an error...the  command is not working.

Any idea how I can automate the configuration from EUFI to LEGACY ?

PS. the otherway around (LEGACY to UEFI) is working fine.

Okay guys Official worst case scenario here... The seller has scratched off the windows coa KEY, then somehow when I got it here, it didn't even have the windows key stored in the bios, but the machine was definately sold with a valid copy of windows 7 profession.   I do however have the service tag only, how can I manage to retrieve the key that was on the sticker, the official key that was sold with the machine  on this individual service tag with NO key stored in the bios and no sticker on the machine?

I was not able to buy it new, so i bought it used there was a bunch of unnecessary things downloaded and put on the laptop that i would not use and did not need on there for what i was using the laptop for (Photography Business) so i attempted to do a complete and total factory reset on the laptop, i did not think that it would do what it had done, Because i had done the factory reset on my desktop, my other laptop, even some other peoples laptops i had done the Factory Reset on, and i never had one issue with doing so.

now here is what happened after i went through all the steps to do the Factory reset properly on my Dell inspiron M5030 it reset itself which is what is supposed to happen however it got to the Dell logo and then after the Dell logo it went to a Complete pitch Black Screen that read a few words "Operating System Not Found" underneath it gave me the option to press the Esc. button to do a reset of the Laptop to see if it helped the issue, however it did not every time i would press that Esc. button it would restart go to the Dell logo, get past that and there is the Pitch black screen reading the same thing "operating system not found" and i have been looking up ways to try and fix it and nothing seems to help, i read a few things that mentioned that i would have to get a a new operating system, or New Hard Drive all together for my laptop, being that issue could have been the hard drive went out or crashed, causing the operating system not be able to detect the BIOS system which is why it can not find the operating system.

now my question is this if i were to buy a new operating system and order it off line, what kind of operating system would i need to fix this issue, also If i am buying the new Hard Drive for the Dell Inspiron M5030, what kind of Hard Drive do i need?

can someone please shed a little light on this situation for me please, i am losing tons of money due to the fact that the Dell Inspiron M5030 laptop is the one i am using for my Photography business, so any advice would be greatly appreciated... if anyone has had this issue and it is now fixed please tell me how you did it, and what you had to do?

Thank you in Advance to anyone who replies to my question(s), and helps me out on my issue, i really would like to fix the mistake i made as fast as possible.... So with that being said if anyone and i mean ANYONE has any advice they could give me or any kind of experience that would help the mistake i have made with my laptop would be greatly and forever appreciated.

again Thank you to anyone who helps me in advance, it will mean the world to me for someone to reply and help me even if it is just a little any kind of computer knowledge is appreciated!

For some reason my windows for corrupted so I needed to reinstall one but when I burned a Windows 7 on dvd the DVD/CD reader does not spin completely and I am unable to boot Windows.

Initially I used to easily boot from a DVD but now the problem is that I have already tried 3 discs but they also showed the same behaviour. Interestingly when I use a CD it is able to boot but it's too damage to complete the installation. Please help.

I have a Dell Inspiron n5110 right now, and only 2 usb port works. I have checked device manager and saw the "texas instrument usb root hub" has a yellow sign but after I reinstall the driver or freshly install the driver whatsoever, it still doesn't work! I recently reinstalled windows and forgot to backup those drivers. I have 2 working ones on the left side of my laptop and both works, but the one on right side does not work at all. Please help, whenever i need to use my usb drive, i have to take my mouse's usb out and use the touchpad. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Can anyone explain the difference between a Factory Image Restore and a normal Windows reinstallation.

I can easily perform both but I want to work the least :-). I already have prepared 2 USBs one with Dell's Factory Image and another with a freshly written ISO file WIN10.

Is there any benefit in restoring the Factory Image (will most drivers already be installed during installation or perhaps things like Alienware.ath or Intel Turbo Max will also be installed etc.) I know that the Image will come with some bloatware that I'll have to uninstall immediately but I really don't want to chase too many drivers or Dell-specific applications, like I'll have to do in a normal Windows reinstallation.

    Any ideas?

I am having problems with installing the latest version of Dell Backup and Recovery software on my laptop (Latitude 3440). Whenever I run the wizard and get to the Update PE Environment setting, it gives me the "factorysetup error 2" message.

Yep. Dell Has done it again to their customers that purchased the Windows 7 XPS 8900. I bought 2 new ones for gifts on Christmas and once again Dell just brushed aside that it wasn't their problem. My problem is neither would update Windows 7 even of left on all night. When I made my call to tech support and talked to Phoebe case support #1368400426 she immediately told me to call Microsoft or Intel or I could escalate up to software support where I would be charged a fee. These I might add are brand new out of the box and neither would do a windows update. So Phoebe's answer was not a quality control problem of Dell's installation it was a Microsoft or Intel Problem. She was of no help, as well as Dell was no help. A brand new machine and Dell doesn't do any Quality Control to see they are working properly before shipping them out! So even though Microsoft took care of my issue you can rest assured as soon as Dell ships it they can care less if it is supposed to have been Quality Controlled checked. I called back to get recovery media for Windows 7 and a product key, this time I talked to Mary on 1-25-2017 and gave her the product key for both of my computers and once again I was put on hold and then transferred to Cimran who would not start a case number since she said I didn't have a problem and even after asking her twice to speak to her supervisor she transferred me the second time to order support where I spoke with Nazer who wouldn't help me and then he transferred me back to Tech Dept. spent a total time for just trying to get a service tag number for windows 7 along with recovery media of 2 hours an 6 minutes only for Tech to say they couldn't help me. This is a quality Control issue and I still need my numbers and reinstall media. We all no if the Windows version on the c drive will not work properly then the image file they have created on the hard drive is just as corrupt. I am asking Dell once again for my recovery media on 2 computers along with my windows 7 license keys!

    Hi

I have re-installed the operating system on my Inspiron 1545 a few times now with varying degrees of success.  I used the operating system disc and the drivers and utilities disc which came with the inspiron when I bought it several years ago.  My problems relate to the utilities disc. I am uncertain as to whether I need to reinstall the drivers etc which are on the disc and also as to whether I need to do this in any particular order.  I want to keep Windows 7 also,  as installing later versions seems to create problems.  Problems also arise when I access drivers and downloads on the drivers and downsloads section of the Dell site,  as those on the site are newer than my laptop and compatibility issues seem to occur because of that.  I don't want to use the inspiron for anything other than occasional internet searching etc as I have a newer laptop.

    Can anyone help?

    Hi,

Was wondering if anyone could help me, laptop started going down hill with numerous problems so i thought i shall try factory restore it in a final attempt to salvage my laptop.

I have a Dell Inspirion 1545, i opened up Dell dataSafe and burnt the factory restore image onto my memory stick as advised, i then booted up the laptop from the memory stick and followed the instructions, an error keeps appearing saying " your hard drive is not supported for this process, please use a hard drive at least 4563519489 GB in size"

Can anyone assist me here please!!

    Thanks

    Tyler
