Dell Latitude E6510: How to access/generate Dell system restore?

$

Dear all,

I have a 2010 Dell Latitude E6510. How do I access/generate Dell system restore?

I have tried pressing and holding down both either the F8 key or F12 key during the system boot process. Unfortunately, I am not presented with the Advanced Boot option screen to access the Dell system restore application/program to conduct a factory restore.

How do I go upon to retrieving the Win 7 Pro installation media to conduct the factory system restore? Is it possible to request or pay for the installation media?

Thanks in advance.

Dell Backup & Recovery: Which Base Image will get created if an existing Win 7 system is upgraded?

If I upgrade my existing pre-installed OEM Win 7 to another version when I use the Dell Backup and Recovery software to generate a Base Image will it create the pre-existing Win 7 OS or the upgraded OS?

Windows 10 Upgrade - why isnt Dell Vostro 3550 on the list from Dell ?

$

I found this list on the Dell site that tells you whether they have tested a particular model for its ability to be upgraded to Windows 10.   The Dell Vostro 3550 is not on the list of about 20 Vostro models, some with lower model numbers ,  some higher.   Will they ever test it??

If you try to upgrade,  windows 10 copies files and then in the 2nd of the three major sections of the upgrade (where you have that big circle in the middle of the screen)  it just goes to a blank screen and then all disk activity ceases and it becomes well hung.   Of course now, the machine thinks its os is win 10 and you cannot go back to a win 7 recover point .  So you just lose all your data and apps and restore the factory image and then install 208 windows 7 updates and it takes like 8 hours in all.

Sounds like a similar problem that people had with Vostros going from win 7 to win 8.   Why not fix it.

Ethernet Controller Driver missing after fresh windows 7 install

I'm fresh installing 7 on a new SSD in preparation for windows 10 but I can't get internet access.  My ethernet controller is missing drivers and I am tired of playing darts trying to figure out exactly what driver numbers I need to transfer over.

Hardware IDs:

PCI\VEN_14&DEV_1692&SUBSYS_04D1028&REV_01

PCI\VEN_14&DEV_1692&SUBSYS_04D1028

PCI\VEN_14&DEV_1692&CC020000

PCI\VEN_14&DEV_1692&CC0200

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

System Model: Studio XPS 8100

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860

Any directions as to where I can find the right driver for this would be greatly appreciated.

sending html files to FORUM expert

I had been asked to supply html files ((CHECKUP : SupportAssist Log File).

It was suggested I sent a PRIVATE message to the expert asking for his EMAIL address.

Eventually I used COPY & PASTE to put the log file into the forum post.

I think there should be ( and possibly is) a better method similar to the normal paper clip method of attaching ordinary word//excel/pictures to ordinary emails

My original problem to which this relates has been since cured.. Thanks... this is just to assist future users who are asked to supply CHECKUP SupportAssist Log files to forum volunteers/dell staff ..

Many thanks

Windows 7 fails to load - requires installation disc

I have a fully updated version of Windows 7 that came pre-installed on our XPS all in one. On Friday night the computer failed to boot into windows and went through a cycle of repairing which failed to resolve the issue. I've followed the instructions on the Microsoft forum to repair the boot thing (see the technical term there) but to no avail. It won't boot into any version (Safe, Safe with CMD, Safe with Networking) I've tried to system restore to previous good config. Before reboot it briefly displays BSOD. The computer is now asking for the installation discs but as the computer came with the OS preinstalled I don't have them and Microsoft have advised to contact Dell. Is there a way I can get the Win 7 installation disc from Dell or download an ISO of Windows 7 so I can try to resolve this? Or if anyone has advice about resolving this without the disc that would be great.

Windows 8 Installation no HDD detected

Hi guys,

My first post here and hoping i can find a solution here. I got the Alienware 17X R4. My primary HDD is the 256 GB SSD. So apparently I had windows 8.1 and everything was working just fine until I don't know how i got the windows 10 installed on it. So now i have Windows 10 on it. After using it for a day I wanted to do a clean install just so I could get rid of some unnecessary errors. I created a bootable USB using the alienware respown. When i tried to do a clean installation I only made it clean my C drive and selected the option of Fully Clean my Drive. The installation failed and now I was left with a computer which does not have a OS on it. So since nothing was working i thought of formatting my C drive which I did using the command prompt, and also decided to go back to windows 8. I had the bootable USB for windows 8. I didn't change anything on the system BIOS setup, but still went to the system setup and made sure i go back to default settings just to be safe.

I started the windows 8 installation and here is my problem, I don't see the Drives at all. I got 2 HDD. One is SSD and the other one is a regular 1TB HDD. I don't see any of my hard drives so i can't install windows anymore. I also ran the full system diagnostics and it seems all good. I tried putting the drives on the USB but it would still give me some error. Finally i read somewhere on the internet to switch something in the BIOS from RAID to ACHI. I did and that actually worked. But I've tried installing windows and after it reached it took a while and the installation wasn't done. Now i am not sure what to do about it. Please somebody suggest something, I just want my computer up and running with the right settings. I don't wanna mess around. If anybody got any ideas please let me know.

Thank you,

Namit

Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro upgrade

I purchased a Dell Latitude E5500 some years ago with Windows XP Pro.  I later received from Dell an upgrade disk for Windows 7 Pro as part of the purchase agreement.  I delayed upgrading until now.  I noticed on the DVD that it says it is for a Windows Vista to Windows 7 upgrade.  Did I receive the wrong DVD or will it work with XP as well?

Fresh Windows 7 Install - CD Key Question

$

Hello,

My friends 2012 Dell Inspiron 620c is having problems.

I plan to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium for them.

I have not looked at the computer yet so I need a few questions answered from people that know about Dells and activating windows.

I asked if they had the CDs that came with the computer, they can't find them.

Does anybody know if that model computer came with a recovery partition?

If it did came with the recovery partition what does this mean, will it let me make my own recovery cds, or will it just let me select the option to reformat my computer from scratch.

If it does not have the recovery partition I am going there with Windows 7 Home Premium (their current version) on USB bootable. I have both x32 and x64 depending on which they already have.

I downloaded them directly from Windows using my retail cdkey.

My other question is if I do end up using my own windows 7 bootables to do a clean install, will the CD key that came with the Dell work to activate windows. I am installing the same exact version they are currently using. No hardware is being changed. Also, I plan on using a program I have to retrieve their current cdkey If i can't find it on their computer chasis, on a dell inspiron desktop where would the windows7 cdkey be located? i have heard on the back, or inside the chassis. anybody know?

If i do my own install I know I will have to install all drivers which i downloaded already from dell. anybody have any tips on doing installing all these drivers (i.e. shortcuts, better ways, tips, anything)

I want to be prepared so I can finish the job when I get there.

Thanks A lot!

tl/dr - my questions:

Doing fresh install of windows 7 home premium.

Does 2012 Dell Inspiron 620c come with a recovery partition?

What will this recovery partition do for me? Will it do the fresh install or will it give me the option to create my own restore cds which in turn will do the fresh install for me?

If there is no recovery partition (restore cds are lost) and I use my windows 7 usb bootable to reinstall windows 7 myself, will their current windows 7 cdkey that came with their dell work to activate my copy of windows that i got retail. (same version)

where is the dell windows 7 cdkey located. I have heard on the back of chassis and also inside of it, anybody actually know where? I have a program to find it manually if i can't find the label.

Unsolicited Phone Call : Windows or microsoft

$

I have telephone support (hardware & software) from United Kingdom ... works satisfactorily..not complaining.

I have CALLER DISPLAY on my British Telecomm phone, which means I can see the phone number of the person who phoned my landline (you have the number on your records)

Recently I have had a phone call claiming there was something wrong with windows / Microsoft.

Several occurrences of this over number of days

I am running laptop L702rX and windows 7

I  have refused to answer questions and/or do anything explicit on my laptop.

I could supply the phone number who phoned me if this would help. Is there anyone I should inform about this or should I simply ignore as I am doing currently

Many thanks

Windows Server 2012 R2 updates - what are they?

My Windows 8 Desktop and Tablet are always getting optional updates for errors regarding Windows Server 2012 R2.  I have no idea what that is, and if I should install them.  I'm not running a server, so I'm guessing that I can just hide them.  Am I right?

Recover Product Key from Dell

$

Hi,

I inherited an Inspiron N4010. The original OS was Windows 7 Home Basic and have a massive malware infection. I wiped the OS and installed Windows 10 (after adding an extra 2GB of RAM). Windows 10 keeps on prompting for a product key, but I do not have one. The key on the label on the underside has worn off, and I don't have the original OS to try and remove it from. Is there anyone at Dell I can contact over this?

Thanks
