  • 07/14/16--09:25: Win7PRO OEM upgrade to Win10
  • Hi all, i have a Precision M4700 with windows 7 SP1 OEM, i'm confused, can i install windows 10 pro for free or do i have to purchase an upgrade license (if i do it now, before the 29th July) ?

Consider i work in an Enterprise environment but the license applied to my PC is the OEM, not the one under Corporate agreement.

    Thanks for a clarification/confirmation.

  • 07/16/16--05:26: Boot time blues ...
  • Getting boot time error message  'TPM not initialized' . Message allows me to press f1 and continue, that works but  inconvenient.

Attempts to reset TPM in BIOS seem to have no effect.

    Running  w7 on a Dell M6500.

    Please advise.

    Hello everyone:

As my post title implies I've got a Dell Precision T3500 loaded with Windows Server 2012 R2 Data Center and I'm looking into the ins and outs of doing RAID on it.

You might have guessed, I'm no expert at this and am looking at building this as more of a learning exercise than anything else.

My system runs as is with no issues at all at this point, just fyi.

Does anyone know what direction I could go from here that would be productive?

After trying to install an unsupported HBA (LSIMegaraid 888elp), and having had my lunch handed to me, I sure would appreciate any insights or perhaps some proven solution that I've not been able to find up to this point.

    Thanks!

    Inspiron 1720, Win7 Ultimate x64

Did a clean install today on a separate partition. Did not delete existing installation of same OS using the same key. The new install won't download the updates.C:\ shows numerous Windows.old files. Anything jump out at anyone or is this Win10 being Win10 ?

PS Would changing this to Win7 Professional help the situation ?

I should add this is a retail SP1 slipstreamed version. As well I was able to get IE 11 installed without issue.

Hello - I installed W10 three days ago and changed my mind. I selected the roll back option and after some time got a message asking me to insert the W7 installation disc. Unfortunately, I no longer have either the disc or the product key (long story). My Vostro PC came installed with W7. Is there anything at all I can do? Many thanks. Rosie

I bought a Dell Reinstallation CD (still sealed) for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition from eBay. It looks legit but Inside the CD envelope there was a product key sticker that says "Windows XP Professional". The product key on the sticker is different than the one on Dell Reinstallation CD. Is this a pirated copy or mistake?

  • 07/14/16--18:07: vista upgrade
  • I have a Dell Inspiron 531s desktop that has Vista.  I need to upgrade to a newer operating system, but I need to know what I should put on it.  Apparently I can't upgrade to Windows 10 from Vista.  I am also seeing that if I put 7 or 8.1 on it, I have to pay for them. (Why, if Windows 10 is free until the 29th?)

  • 07/21/16--13:03: Windows 7 software
  • I upgraded my 2012 Dell laptop to windows 10 a while back.  It worked okay for a while, but I'm now having problems.  Someone advised me to revert back to Windows 7.  When I tried to do so, I was unable because my Windows 7 product key is for Dell installed versions.

How can I get the original Windows 7 OS that was delivered with my new Dell?

    Thanks,

    Hello everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has tried this. I am looking to buy a refurbished version of this computer and would like to know if it is compatible with Windows 10 64 bit and Windows Server 2012 R2.

I currently have an aging Precision 670 that is running Windows Server 2012 that I can not move higher than that version due to the required new instruction sets of older processors that are 64 bit. Will this machine have the same problem or will it work okay with these operating systems?

The model I am looking at is the T7400 with dual E5450 3.0 GHz Xeon processors installed and 8 gb of ram.

Any help you can provide on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your time.

    Regards

    Bill

We have a PC that has a wrong date (year 2053) so nothing works.  The error message tells me that the certificate is too far in the future and is not valid.  Norton has quit working, too.  Any suggestions on ways I can try to fix this?

I have a piece of equipment connected to COM1 that operates at baud=57600.  The default baud rate of COM1 is 9600.  Every time the computer is powered on I have to go into Device Manager and set COM1 to baud=57600.

    I would like COM1 to have a default setting of baud=57600.  I tried cmd.exe:

    "Mode Com1: baud=57600"

    ...and this did not work.

    Any suggestions?

Question:  How do I restore to the factory settings/ perform a factory reset when it is not listed under the System Recovery Options, but there is an active recovery & healthy partition?

When I attempt to factory restore or access the recovery partition, Dell sometimes has it listed in the Advanced Boot Options, but a lot of the times it is not listed. I will have the following options:

    Repair Your Computer

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

    Enable Boot Logging
    Enable low-resolution video (640x480)
    Last Known Configuration (advanced)
    Directory Services Restore Mode
    Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
    Disable Driver Signature Enforcement

    Start Windows Normally

After clicking "Repair Your Computer", I am presented with the following options:
    • Startup Repair
    • System Restore
    • System Image Recovery
    • Windows Memory Diagnostic
    • Command Prompt

Typically, "Repair Your Computer" is how I have performed the factory restore.  However, this this did not work this time and has worked on some of the previous workstations.  To verify there is a recovery partition, I performed the following steps:

Start > Right Click on Computer > Manager > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management

Under Disk Management, the recovery partition is listed with the following information:  Healthy, Active, Primary Partition and has 14.65 GB.

Hopefully, this is not too wordy, but I wanted to give all the relevant information. It is annoying because there is no standardization.  Sometimes the manufacture gave the CDs and sometimes they had it as an option built in to the Operating System.  I personally liked the CDs, but sometimes they get lost.

Note *****Although I have searched repeatedly for a solution, I still haven't got a answer on it.  Hopefully, I am in the right area.  I figured since I am essentially re-imaging or re-installing the O.S. I should put the thread under the installation and setup section.   *****
