Reload Windows on a new hard drive

My OEM hard drive died on me, so I had to replace it with a new one.  I reinstalled windows and typed in the Windows product key on the computer case, but it gives me an error that it is not the correct key.  Windows installed correctly and is running, but every time I shut down and log back in, it reminds me that the product key is not valid.  I've verified that it is the correct number.  What can I do to correct this issue?

Windows 7 update execution will not do anything anymore

I've updated an old laptop that is still good for what I need (Dell Latitude E6400) but after updating Windows patches after 20-30 patches, update is not doing anything anymore...

I've asked on Dell support site, search for known problems reported, etc....

found an article giving 13 different steps to cure my laptop problem but it still not resolved. I suspect a corruption in a file during the last update but I can't find it...

I'm thinking of reinstalling with W7 OS but I got this laptop from my former company, who were giving it to employees, and don't have the W7 OS DVD nor other support material. I was hoping to get an genuine copy from Dell but can't find a way to inform them of what I need...

Can someone tell me how I could find a solution to this.

Thanks

Norm

Upgrade help w8.1 to W10

My Laptop 15-3537 is now 2 years old and runs with W8.1. No problems, everything is fine. I read about an upgrade to W10, but I also read, that many upgraders experience lots of problems. So, right now, I have no reason to upgrade.

But I'm thinking, that I must upgrade in the future for yet unkown good reasons. When I run during such an upgrade into trouble, who can help me fixing that? I really cannot spend too much time on something like that, because, as a journalist, I need my laptop every day.  So, I'd rather call somebody.

Does Microsoft help me?

Does Dell help me?

What are the costs?

I appreciate your comments very much. Thank you!

Hi.  I have just purchased an Inspiron 3650 (3ZRY482), and downgraded to Win7.  I've ironed out all the drivers but one.  It is :

PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&SUBSYS_020E1028&REV_01
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&SUBSYS_020E1028
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&CC_0280

Ive tried a dozen different links, but each has failed for one reason or another.  Do you mind giving me some direction?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi

I need to create a bootable usb with win7 on my new E5450.
I saw a recent post which lead me to:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/OSISO

1. Will I be able to make a clean install of win7 on my Latitude E5450 with this iso?
2. What do I need before reinstalling win7?
Windows 7 Product Id etc? Anything else?
3. Why do dell install win7 on my machine and then deliver win8 on dvd when it comes without optical media player?

Thanks

lsass.exe Access Denied a process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Intel Pentium running Windows XP  sp3 and have been getting tons of junk mail. I ran Avast, malware bytes &spybot. Nothing found. So I started looking through the Dell help on my computer. I'm not as savvy as I'd like to be and while trying to fix the issue myself I did something that I shouldn't have. First, I tried system restore to go back to a later date but it wouldn't let me no mater which date I tried. Then,I followed a suggestion regarding the registries. HUGE mistake! Now my computer is stuck in a boot loop. I obviously need to repopulate my hives but have no idea how. When the computer starts the Windows XP logo pops up. Then a box pops up saying lsass.exe access denied a proccess has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights. When I click ok It restarts. The Dell logo pops up then the Windows XP logo and then the access denied again. Ive tried to start in last known good configuration. Safe mode. System restore. But, i keep ending back in the loop. So, I tried ordering some disks that I thought may be able to help while I've been reading through threads for information. I don't have any of the original software for this cop, I purchased it used a few years ago. But, I purchased a Knoppix 7.6.1., and system rescue from same CO, & 2 CDs off eBay Windows XP 64 bit & 32 bit as I wasn't sure which was the one I might need. But the were being sold as disks for this type of problem. But, when I put the 64 bit in, I changed the boot order first that that it could even be able to load, but it said to use the 32 bit disk. So, I tried the 32 but nothing happened at all. I'm stumped! Can anyone help me?

WinXP Installation - BSOD - 0x0000000A - Optiplex 780

Hi all. My Optiplex 780 had Windows 7 Pro on it, and I needed to step down to Windows XP.  On installation, I get to the Windows XP Install page, then about half way into the device drivers loading, I get this BSOD error. I've tried to go into BIOS and tweak a few settings, but to no avail.  I've taken all of my cards out and still am having the same issue. The system was working with no issues when it had Win7 on it, so I don't think that there are any memory issues.

Any thoughts how I can go about getting past this error?  I've seen some posts about loading additional Dell drivers, but not really sure how to do that.  My Optiplex does not have a floppy drive.

Thanks!

BLOCKED??? Window 7 Home Premium OS on a Dell Inspirion 660s

$

I just got done chatting with MS tech support. I have been having a problem with having dialog boxes pop up advising that I am running a "counterfeit copy of Windows 7". Also, when I run a simple validation process, it identifies it as an Invalid Microsoft Program Operating System. My Windows Update feature has also quit working and indicates that the Windows Update has NEVER been used (I have had this computer - and it has worked fine up until now - and regularly had Windows Updates done (they were set up to Update automatically, but I would also periodically check it Manually).

I talked to MS tonight, and they advised me - after doing some Remote Session checking around - that mu Activation Key Code that I gave them WAS correct and good, but that it had its activation BLOCKED... by the manufacturer (that being Dell).

Has anyone heard of such a thing? Why would Dell do that? How to I get it "unblocked"?

In lieu of Dell doing that "unblocking", MS says that I have to buy ANOTHER Activation Key (just a set of numbers) for $40!!! -- and still couldn't tell me if Dell's program could turn around and block that one also!!!
